According to Banfield Pet Hospital, one in four pets (cats and dogs) are overweight. The problem is so pervasive that the Association for Pet Obesity has declared October 9 as National Pet Obesity Awareness Day.

Banfield collected data from over 800 animal hospitals over 43 states. While dogs have become 37 percent more likely to be overweight, the statistics for cats being overweight is up 90 percent. While we often equate love with food, check on your pet’s health to make sure he or she doesn’t get obese. The healthier your cat, the longer you’ll have your cat around, so feed your cat sparingly.
