One of the most famous pictures of a cat involved a policeman stopping traffic so a mother cat could cross with a kitten in her mouth. Although this picture still looks great today, it was actually staged. Harry Warnecke, a photographer for the New York News, got a phone tip about a cat trying to carry its kittens home and tying up traffic as a result.

By the time Harry got to the scene, the cat had crossed the street and traffic was flowing. Harry convinced the policeman to allow him to stage the picture so he could capture it for the newspaper. The picture still caused a sensation when it was printed, which meant it went viral before the days of the Internet. This also serves as a reminder that you can’t always believe everything you see in the newspaper.
