Anyone who owns a black cat knows they can be just as loving and lovable as any other cat. Unfortunately some people cling to the misguided belief that a black cat somehow represents bad luck. During the Salem witch hunts, people believed that witches could turn themselves into black cats. Therefore based on that logic, all black cats must be evil, although it’s more appropriate to assume that anyone who believes cats are witches in disguise are really the evil ones.

Strangely, not every culture thinks black cats mean bad luck. Scottish believe that a strange black cat’s arrival to the home signifies prosperity, while Pirates of the 19th century believed if a black cat walks towards you, it’s a sign of bad luck, but it’s good luck if it walks away from you. In the English Midlands, a black cat as a wedding present is thought to bring good luck to the bride!
