November 17 is the official date for National Black Cat Day, but that doesn’t mean you can’t adopt and love a black cat any other time of the year. Due to superstitions, many people shy away from adopting black cats, but they can be just as lovable as any other cat.

While people in America often associate black cats with witchcraft, people in Great Britain and Japan consider black cats a symbol of good luck and prosperity. According to the Guinness World Records, the “wealthiest” cat honor goes to a black cat aptly named Blackie, who is worth a cool $25 million.

Remember, black cats can be just as lovable as any other cat so make your home safe for all types of cats and help keep cats safe no matter what the color of their fur may be.
