Caring for a cat can get expensive. Beyond the cost of cat food and veterinarian bills, the most mundane expense of caring for a cat involves kitty litter. Instead of buying kitty litter from a store, consider saving money by making your own.

Recycling newspapers and junk mail is one way to make your own kitty litter along with using wood shavings or even chicken feed. Just remember that cats are often picky about everything so if you change their litter too drastically, they’ll likely just use your bed and pillow as a litter box instead.
