When Brad VanCleave, a Navy reservist from Murrieta, worked as a government contractor at the Baghdad International Airport, he discovered a kitten with its mother. Brad soon fed the kitten and mother and made friends with the cat.

“It’s kind of a neat little feeling to know that you’re arriving at your work site and you’re greeting by this meowing little baby, and he’s chasing after you.”

When Brad was sent back home to California, he used a program called Operation Baghdad: Pups designed to reunite veterans with animals they befriended while serving in Iraq. The program shipped the cat, named Mr. Meowgi, and now he’s back with Brad in the safety of the United States.
