Many schools have animals as mascots butĀ Trumpington Community College has gone one step further and created a virtual cat that appears on students’ laptops.Ā The cat is connected to the school’s network and is “fed” on solar power generated by the building.

“We [wanted] to give students and staff an insight into, and understanding of, the building they work and play in,” said Usman Haque, from Umbrellium.

The augmented reality creature “lives in the school”, in a “virtual environment on top of the physical environment”, he said.

If you thought having a cat in a classroom might prove distracting, then you haven’t seen the effect when a virtual cat appears on everyone’s laptop, demanding food and attention.
