In war-torn Syria, many owners have abandoned their cats. That’s why Mohammad Alaa Aljaleel has vowed to stay behind and care for all the abandoned cats as best he can. Unfortunately, the recent airstrikes hit his cat sanctuary and killed several animals.

Despite the danger, Aljaleel, an electrician and ambulance driver, has said he would stay and protect the animals, “no matter what.” He also said, “There is a firm bond between humanitarianism and caring for animals.”
