For fourteen years, Rachel’s Quilt Patch at the train station in Staunton had a cat named Patches. When Patches died, Rachel’s Quilt Patch went catless until someone spotted a feral cat hiding under a boxcar.

Now this feral cat, named West Blue, has found a home in Rachel’s Quilt Patch and lives in the store. When the store’s owners leave for the day, they make sure the cat has plenty of food and water.

“She guards the shop when we’re gone,” the owner said. “She’s very independent. On Tuesday mornings she’ll be waiting in the window and come greet us at the door. I think she misses us, but I don’t think she’s lonely. She goes to the window for entertainment.”
