A 13-year old cat named Jamie wound up in the RSPCA Australia shelter because his owner moved into a nursing home and couldn’t take her cat with her. Shelter officials feared that no one would adopt an elder cat but they were wrong.

Sarah Dempsey went to the shelter looking for a cat to keep her company since she lives alone. When Sarah saw Jamie, Jamie was so affectionate that she knew immediately that Jamie was for her.

After taking Jamie home, Sarah discovered that Jamie was so attached to her that the cat wouldn’t even go to sleep unless Sarah held its paw or tail.

“If I let go he wakes up, meows, and claws my hand back to him,” Dempsey said. “I think we’ve bonded already.”

If you’re looking to adopt a cat, consider an elderly cat because even senior cats can show love and affection no matter what their age.
