At one time, far too many dogs and cats wound up in animal shelters to the point where shelters got overcrowded and unfortunately had to euthanize animals. Fortunately, these dark days are gone because now shelters are reporting fewer deaths in animal shelters.

Part of the reason is that free or low-cost spaying and neutering services are reducing the number of unwanted animals. Even better, more people are adopting animals so fewer animals are getting left behind in shelters.

With microchips, owners have a much greater chance of finding and reuniting with their pets than ever before. If you haven’t yet adopted a pet, consider giving one a good home. If you already have adopted a pet, adopt more if you have the room. The more animals everyone adopts, the more lives can be spared and bring joy to more people around the world.
