Remote controls are so easy to lose or misplace. Even worse, they can often become favorite toys for your cat so when you want to use the remote control, your cat does too. That means having to wrestle the remote control away from your cat to use it.

Thankfully, new technology may make remote controls obsolete. Instead of using a separate device that’s easy to use, researchers at the University of Lancaster have developed a system that will let any object in your house become a TV remote – even your cat.

Using a webcam and the research team’s Matchpoint technology, a user only needs to match gesture motions carried out with an object with a rotating icon on screen. That means you can soon use your cat’s body as a remote control.
