Larry the Cat is the official mouser at 10 Downing Street. He’s proven so popular (and effective at catching mice) that he’s inspired the French government to get a cat of their own. That’s because it’s estimated that Paris actually has more rats than people.

The secretary to the prime minister, Christophe Castaner, has reportedly brought in two cats to catch rodents in the offices near the Elysee Palace. The two cats are named Nomi and Noé, after one of the first Breton sovereigns, Nominoé.

Perhaps if people can’t get along, their cats can. That means our best chance for diplomacy may be our shared love of cats.
