When wildfires spread throughout Northern California, many owners got separated from their owners. Such cats typically panicked and disappeared in hiding places, forcing their owners to abandon them.

Fortunately, a volunteer organization called Pet Rescue & Reunification is trying to reunite these fire cats with their owners. This group sets up night-vision cameras in storm drains and creek beds, where many cats went into hiding. Then they set traps baited with tuna and mackerel.

Before you lose your cat, get it microchipped. That will greatly increase the odds that if your cat goes missing and is found, someone will help reunite you with your cat once more.
