Australia has a feral cat problem. Not only do feral cats kill one million native birds every night, but they’ve caused the extinction of 20 native species. No matter how much people may like cats, they don’t like feral cats wrecking the wildlife.

That’s why Australia has created the largest cat-proof fence and that’s also why Sydney philanthropists Andrew and Jane Clifford have pledged to match every donation made to the Australian Wildlife Conservancy up to $1m, hoping to create a $2m fund to eradicate Australia’s cat plague.

The goal is to create a large, cat-free sanctuary so native species can thrive once more. Cats may be cuddle, but keep them inside so they don’t kill birds, especially in Australia.
