Just in time for the Chinese New Year, will release a film called “Legend of the Demon Cat,” which is based on the novel Gensoshin Kukai, by best-selling Japanese fantasy writer Baku Yumemakura. The movie is from internationally celebrated filmmaker and Palme d’Or winner Chen Kaige.
The combination Chinese-Japanese production tells the story of a Chinese poet, Bai Letian (Xuan Huang) and a Japanese monk, Kukai (Shōta Sometani) who investigate the case of a demonic cat who has possessed a general’s wife (Kitty Zhang Yuqi) and wreaked havoc on the imperial court.
AS any cat lover knows, any cat can be a demon and it doesn’t have to be supernatural in any way to do it.
