Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Denver currently ban declawing of cats as a cruel and unnecessary practice. However, New York may soon be the first state to completely ban declawing.
The bill may allow declawing for medical purposes but hopefully it will protect cats from this practice unless absolutely necessary. By letting cats keep their claws, supporters hope to insure that cats remain happy in whatever home they dominate next.
