Declawing a cat can be cruel and inhumane, which is why Michigan is proposing a ban on this practice. Violators of the ban would be slapped with fines of up to $1,000.

The American Veterinary Medical Association defines it as surgical amputation and formally discourages its use. New York became the first state to ban declawing and Michigan may soon be next. Hopefully this will start a trend to ban declawing nationwide.
