Cat ladies are known as the gattare, which means the “cat ladies” of the neighborhood. Initially this term was more of a derogatory word but lately it has turned into a word of regality like duchess or queen. These cat ladies care and feed these stray cats so they won’t go hungry.
The next time you’re in Italy, look for a friendly neighborhood cat. You may find plenty of strays happy to take a hand out from you.
