Cats often stare at mirrors and wonder who that other cat is on the other side of the glass. Other times cats will scratch at a mirror and paw it as if trying to get through to the other side like Alice through the looking glass.
Megan McCorkel, DVM, a veterinary writer said that “scratching or pawing at something is a reliable way for your cat to learn more about an object.” Cats just want to know what a mirror is and how it works. Of course, won’t they be surprised one day if they feel their reflection touching them right back.
