Cats love scratching partly to exercise their claws and partially because it destroys something expensive that you want. Since you probably don’t want your cat shredding your furniture, you need to find ways to appease your cat’s scratching habits.
The most obvious is to put scratching posts around your home. Some cats like vertical posts while others prefer horizontal pads. Also consider using tape or other objects covering your furniture to discourage your cat from wrecking it.
With both rewards (scratching posts) and disincentives ()tape on furniture), you can hopefully convince your cat to do what you want. Then again, your’e dealing with a cat so good luck with that.
