Neurologist Suzana Herculano-Houzel found that the average dog possessed twice as many neurons—the basic information processing units found in the brain—as cats. Yet one cat outwitted a dog by stealing the dog’s larger bed, forcing the dog to cram itself on the cat’s much smaller bed.
A video of the dejected dog and the triumphant cat has now gone viral on the Internet. The dog and cat owner says the two animals are actually good friends, but this might verify a 2020 study by Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary, that found felines were more adept at solving puzzles than their canine pet rivals. If stealing a dog’s bed is a measure of intelligence, the cat wins.
