When you adopt a cat, you need to feed it. The two main choices are dried cat food and wet cat food (canned or in pouches). In general, wet cat food has a high moisture content, helping keep your cat hydrated.

The big drawback of wet cat food is that it spoils faster when left uneaten. Ideally, give your cat a choice of both wet and dried cat food, then make sure you feed your cat all the feed you would normally eat because your cat will likely want to eat that too. While you’re at it, you might as well eat the cat food and let your cat eat your food since that’s what will make your cat happiest of all.
