For as long as people and cats have been around, there’s actually a shortage of knowledge on what humans know about cat behavior. Specifically, researchers studied 105 video clips of 210 cats to determine the difference between aggressive behavior and playful behavior.
In general, aggressive cats exhibited vocalization and inactivity before fighting. So if you see a cat howling its head off and doing nothing, beware. That cat might explode in a burst of rage at any moment. If you see two cats fighting, experts suggest turning a light on and off, walking nearby, or tossing a barrier between the two cats such as a pillow. The goal is to distract the cats before they can start fighting.
