People say a lot of strange phrases using cats. In case you’ve ever wondered what some of these sayings mean, there are several possible answers. “To fight like cat and dog” alludes to the ongoing enmity between the two species, and by extension to men and women arguing.

Rhe Clan MacDonald motto is “Touch not a cat without a glove” meaning not to pick a fight with a MacDonald as they have claws and know how to use them! “To get the wrong cat by the tail”, which means make an error with nasty results, could also hark back to bloodsports or to being on the wrong end of the cat-o-nine-tails.
