According to Lost Pet Research and Recovery, at least 15 percent of cat owners lose their pets in a five-year period. The good news is that 64 percent of those animals are found alive. However, the best alternative is to make sure you don’t lose your cat in the first place.

Since indoor cats may get curious, you might want to take your cat outside in a controlled situation such as a carrier, leash, or backpack. That way your cat an explore the outdoors without the danger of cars, dogs, or people. Depending on where you live, there may be too many dangers for a cat so keep your cat inside and give it plenty of toys so it won’t have a reason to go out.
