If you hang around cats long enough, you may notice that occasionally cats seem to chirp. Sometimes this is like a greeting to their favorite humans but sometimes cats chirp when they spot prey such as a bird or a rodent nearby.

Cats chirp to alert others of potential prey. So if a cat chirps in your presence while looking at something else, it considers you part of its family and it’s alerting you to potential prey nearby. That means your cat might expect you to take a flying leap to snare a bird or a rodent with your bare hands.
