The Algonquin Hotel is one of New York’s fancier hotels. In the late 1930s, a disheveled feline wandered into the hotel searching for food and shelter. Owner Frank Case welcomed the furry visitor into The Algonquin and started a tradition of having a resident cat.

The current cat resident, Matilda, has the run of the house (except in dining areas and the kitchen) and even receives mail weekly from friends around the world. Each year, the hotel throws Matilda a birthday party, as befits a New York celebrity.

After learning about how well the Algonquin Hotel treats cats, you might be tempted to get reincarnated as a cat and try your luck as the next feline resident of the Algonquin Hotel.
