In the Russian city of Novorossiysk, the library staff found a cat on the front steps. After trying to find a home for the cat, they finally decided to keep him and grant him the title of “assistant librarian.”

In return for thirty packs of food a month, the cat’s new job is to entertain children, participate in theatrical performances, and greet visitors on the steps of the library. If a cat can make a library a more inviting place to be, perhaps cats can help improve literacy among people of all ages.
