Trying to get your cat to do anything you want is usually an exercise in frustration. Still if you’re determined enough or just enjoy matching wits with an animal that already sees you as a subservient to all its wishes, you can try various tactics to keep your cat from jumping up on the kitchen counters.
One common tactic is to put cookie sheets or metal pans filled with water on the counters so when a cat jumps up, it will hit the metal plates and the noise and unfamiliar surface will frighten the cat off. Of course the easiest solution is to give up trying altogether and let your cat roam anywhere in your house.
