With the city of Detroit facing bankruptcy, there are plenty of abandoned buildings and homes that the city can’t afford to demolish. The result is that all of these empty buildings help create breeding grounds for animals including stray dogs and cats. According to Michigan State political science professor Laura Reese, the number of strays roaming Detroit could be as high as 7,500 dogs and 18,000 cats.
With so many people abandoning their pets for financial reasons, animal protection agencies are getting overwhelmed. If you live in the Detroit area, please consider adopting a cat and giving it a much needed home. No animal deserves to be left fending for itself in the street, especially during the winter months where they need to get out of the cold, so adopt a cat today.
