What does your cat do when it goes outside? Most people think that their cat simply wanders around the neighborhood and then comes home, so to find out for sure, Researchers at Britain’s University of Lincoln School of Life Sciences decided to to fit 50 cats in the village of Shamley Green with miniaturized GPS collars and cat-cams strapped beneath their chins so they could record the roving felines’ every move.
What did this research uncover? Basically that cats don’t roam too far from home. The cats often simply visited their next door neighbor rather than roam the countryside in search of prey. However the information recorded did help researchers discover how cats defined their territory and how their ranges overlapped with other cats.
