A 14-year-old cat named Smokey set the world’s record for the loudest purring cat when she reached 67.7 decibels during a recording at Northampton College in April 2011. That’s nearly as loud as a hairdryer or a lawn mower. Unfortunately Smokey suffered from kidney failure. Smokey’s owner, Ruth Adams from Pitsford, said she would be “greatly missed by her family.”
