Iris Grace is a 5-year-old girl with autism. Yet she’s an incredibly talented painter, and her work has been shared all over the Internet. Unfortunately, her autism renders her less willing to communicate with others. Since Iris often gets stressed out over seemingly ordinary activities like taking a bath, she has the companionship of Thula, her 1-year old Maine Coon cat.

Thula not only stays with her at all times, but takes baths with her so Iris won’t get stressed out. Iris’s mom said, “Thula has lowered Iris’ daily anxieties in life and keeps Iris calm, but equally has the effect of encouraging her to be more social. She will talk more to Thula, saying little phrases like ‘sit, cat.’

If you thought cats were only selfish little creatures who took advantages of others, you’re probably thinking of politicians. As this story shows, cats can be wonderful creatures, as any cat lover knows, and provide immeasurable help in making the lives of those around them better in every way (except when you have to clean their litter boxes).
