When Mr. Pickles, first arrived at the Scottish SPCA’s Aberdeenshire centre, he weighed an astounding 12kgs last year. The staff at the Drumoak centre immediately put the cat on a strict diet and exercise regime and he has now reached 6.5kgs or almost half his original weight.

Assistant manager Debbie Innes said: “It’s extremely important owners keep their cats at a healthy weight. Anyone concerned that their pet may be overweight should consult their vet.” Since owners tend to place their own values on their pets, one way to keep your cat slim and healthy is to make sure you stay slim and healthy. That way your cat can look at you as a positive role model.
