Cat cafes have long been popular in Asia and now they’re starting to appear in North America. After Oakland, New York, and Denver opened cat cafes, San Diego has now joined this growing trend.

Like other cat cafes, the San Diego cat cafe offers patrons a chance to play with cats and adopt them later if they wish.

The Cat Café officially opened January 5 and has been attracting customers like catnip. Owner Tony Wang says he’s “overwhelmed” by the coffee shop’s initial popularity. “We had lines 40 minutes long for 15 minutes of cat time,” Wang said.
