If you look at the news, you might get the impression that a large segment of the younger population is already stupid without the fear of cars making them any dumber. However, there’s actually scientific evidence that cats can affect the memory and reading skills of children.

A parasite spread by cats, calledToxoplasma gondii, has been linked to impaired memory and reading in school children. Scientists at the University of Iowa and Florida International University found children who tested positive for the parasite had poorer reading and memory scores in cognitive tests.

That means if your child has poor grades in school, it could be because of your cat. Then again, it could be because your kid doesn’t care about school so you can’t blame your cat for that.
