When most cats try to wake their owners up, it’s usually to demand to be fed at the earliest possible hours of the night. However when Grant MacDonald’s cat, Major Tom, tried to wake him up, it was because the yacht they were in was sinking.
“He kept head-butting me and got me up, and eventually after checking the wind and doing the normal course check I noticed the bow heavy, heavy in the water … the whole boat was flooded,” MacDonald said.
MacDonald got himself and Major Tom into a life raft where they drifted for several hours until being rescued. Although Grant lost everything he owned in his yacht, he and Major Tom are safe.
