For the longest time you only heard about cat cafes in Asia. If you wanted to visit a cat cafe, you had to make a trip overseas. Yet lately cat cafes have been popping up all over the world including Europe and North America. The latest North American cat cafe will be the Happy Tabby Cat Cafe in Atlanta.

Atlanta area native April Hill quit her job to plot, build, and operate the region’s first cat cafe. “There’s not one in the South and I think Atlanta would be such a great city for one because it’s such a pet-friendly city,” she says, adding she hopes to open doors in early summer. The wifi-enabled space will retail pre-packaged foods along with standard coffeeshop beverages.

Hill plans to rely on Kickstarter to help cover initial operating costs. Like most cat cafes, the cats will be available for adoption so if you find a cat you like, take it home with you after you enjoy your snack.
