In many homes, the postal carrier inserts mail through a slot in a door or wall. However Matthew Sampson, who lives in Patchway near Bristol, received a letter from Royal Mailciting a “potential hazard” at his home which was “affecting deliveries”.

According to Royal Mail, Bella the cat is a “threat” to staff and has been putting “fingers at risk of injury”. Apparently each time the Royal Mail carrier tries to insert mail through the mail slot, Bella reaches through and tries to grab the mail and the postal carrier’s fingers.

Whether Royal Mail will stop delivery of mail due to a cat or not remains to be seen. Until then, Bella may see mail delivery as a game but the Royal Mail carrier may not, especially if Bella’s playful claws cut or scratch the postal carrier’s hands.
