Everyone knows that catnip can drive most cats wild, but what’s lesser known is what drives humans wild. The answer is simple. What drives people crazy are cat videos on the Internet.

Jessica Gall Myrick, a media scholar at Indiana University, studied this strange phenomena and said, “What I found was that people reported feeling happier, even more hopeful and more energetic, after watching a cat video than before.”

Myrick recruited 6,795 Internet users and asked them how and why they consumed cat videos. “I found out the process of watching cat videos also seemed to dampen negative emotions. They felt less anxious, less angry and less depleted,” says Myrick.

So the next time you’re feeling a bit depressed, turn on your computer and watch a cat video. It may just brighten your day.
