What do you give a little girl for Christmas? If she wanted a pet, you get her a cat. Yet when her father gave her a cardboard box with a cat in it, the little girl was too slow in opening it.
As soon as she opened the box, the cat scurried away, leaving the little girl staring at an empty box, wondering why her father had given her nothing. Only after her father pointed out the cat hiding behind the Christmas tree did she realize that her present had been a cat that she always wanted.
So the lesson is clear. When you want to give a cat for Christmas, it’s probably easier just to hand the cat to a person rather than trying to hide it in a cardboard box. Either that, or get a cat that will cooperate, which means handing someone a mythical cat that doesn’t exist.
