Cat cafes began in Asia and soon swept across North America and Europe. Now St. Petersburg, Russia is the latest city to have a cat cafe all its own.

Dubbed the “Cat Republic,” the cat cafe will be the second branch of Saint Petersburg’s Cat Museum and will house 60 felines from the city’s animal shelters and the Hermitage Museum.

Organizers hope the cat cafe will increase adoptions and also become a tourist attraction. So the next time you read international news about Russia that’s less than positive, just remember that Russians like cats too and then everything will be all right.
