In Cuba, stray animals can get picked up by animal control officers to get them off the street. To save stray animals, residents adopt strays to the point where even government institutions adopt strays and give them ID cards on their collars to keep them safe from animal control officers.

While Cubans tend to like dogs, some people like cats and care for strays in their neighborhood. Although cats and dogs may not seem to ordinarily get along, they can both find kindness from people around Cuba.
