When scientists discovered a parasite called Toxoplasma gondii, they feared it could infect humans exposed to cat litter. Once infected by this parasite, the infected person would then supposedly exhibit strange behavior, often involving taking care of more cats.

Fortunately British researchers discovered that there’s no link between this parasite and mental illness. That means if you own a cat, you were crazy before you even got a cat.

Now that scientists believe cats can’t cause mental illness, they still need to figure out why crazy people tend to like cats in the first place. Then again, given the number of crazy people in any population, it’s likely that the only sane creates on this planet may be the cats.
