No matter what religion you worship, there’s likely a cat involved. In nearly all religions, cats have been associated with both good and evil. In Christianity, the “M” marking on the forehead of tabby cats is said to be where Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ touched and blessed a tabby cat that comforted her baby.

In Islam, the “M” marking stands for the prophet Mohammed (Muhammad) who had a great fondness for cats. While dogs are considered unclean by many Muslims, cats – who frequently bury their own waste and rarely eat another animal’s faeces – are not.

So the next time you shower a cat with affection, just remember that the love of cats crosses over all religious, ethnic, and national boundaries. If more people would embrace cats, perhaps the world would be a safer and better place for everyone.
