It’s easy to buy a scratching post with ledges for a cat to climb, but sometimes you may want to go a bit further. In that case, you can build your own cat climbing obstacles and give your cat a unique treat that can never be duplicated from a store-bought scratching post.
For the do-it-yourselfer, you can consider making shelfs on the wall to give your cat room to explore. Just keep the shelves wide enough for the cat to walk on and make it interesting so your cat will actually try it out.
Just make sure you’re handy with tools and be aware that no matter how marvelous you make your cat a climbing post, your cat may just get bored and prefer to chase a leaf instead while completely ignoring your creation that you put so much time, money, and work to create.
