When an out of control wildfire threatened her home, Ester Spye had no choice but to flee. She tried to coax her cat, Socks, out from under her bed but he refused to come out. Heartbroken, Esther left her home and believed she would never see Socks alive again.

52 days later, Esther got a call from her niece who lived nearby. Apparently her niece heard a outside her own home, which the fire spared, and looked outside to see Socks. How Socks survived for 52 days on his own remains a mystery, but Esther noted that he looked well taken care of so she suspects a kindly neighbor must have been feeding him all this time. Socks is now reunited with his owner so despite the wildfire damage, everything turned out for the best.
