In England, there’s a law stating that you must report to the police if you run over a dog or other animal such as a goat or a horse. Strangely, there’s no law that obligates drivers to report to the police if they run over a cat.

That may change. Gemma Conway lost her cat Bertie in April. Now she’s circulating a petition to make it a law that drivers report when they run over a cat on the road. Her petition now has nearly 200,000 signatures.

Hopefully this petition will help bring more awareness to cats. In the meantime, make sure your cat gets microchipped to speed up identification so it can find its way back to your home if it ever gets lost.
