A cat in China was recently neutered. Later as it was cleaning itself, it looked down around its private parts, stopped, and looked up with an expression of complete shock and surprise.
If cats can recognize when some body part is missing, perhaps we need to find other ways to neuter cats before they realize some vital part of their body is suddenly missing. In any event, this just shows that cats are more aware of their surroundings than humans may give them credit for.
